Davidson Trauma Scale
Used to measure symptoms of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder quickly and accurately in people aged 18 years and older.
Description:
The DTS™ was developed by Jonathan Davidson, who was co-chair of the DSM-IV™ PTSD Task Force and is one of the leading authorities in the field. The DTS provides a quick and accurate measure of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder symptoms. It can be used to evaluate psychopathology in trauma victims, assess the effectiveness of treatment and predict treatment success.
The items cover all types of trauma including accident, combat, sexual and criminal assault, natural disaster, torture, burns, loss of property, near-death experiences and bereavement. Each item corresponds to a DSM-IV™ symptom of PTSD to facilitate diagnosis. The DTS total score can be broken down into three symptom clusters which can be assessed independently. The three symptom clusters are:
• Intrusion
• Avoidance/Numbing
• Hyperarousal
The DTS is a 17 item self-report scale. Respondents report on:
a) the frequency and severity of symptoms during the past week using a 4 pt scale; 0 (not at all) – 4 (everyday)
b) the distress associated with their symptoms; 0 (not at all distressing) – 4 (Extremely distressing
Responses are automatically transferred to the underlying scoring page on the response sheet so results can be easily tabulated. Also integrated into Form is the DTS table that shows the percentage of PTSD and non-PTSD individuals that obtain each DTS score—a useful interpretive aid.
